Update from CYO dated 10/8/2020

Welcome to the Diocese of Cleveland CYO 2020 Winter Sports season.  As we continue to navigate through these unusual times, we are proud to announce that CYO will move forward with its winter season. We will offer the sport of basketball for grades 3-12.  The program will be different but we will provide a safer opportunity for young people and your families to stay engaged within your parish, your school and CYO Athletics.

The season will be staggered into two sessions.
1. Grades 6-12 will begin competitions December 12. Practices may begin November 12.  Registration will be open until November 6, 2020.
No assessment, open gyms etc. before November 12.  If necessary we will hold assessments for grades 6-8 and regular practices will begin November 16th in our gym
2. Grades 3-5 will begin competition January 9. Practices may begin December 9.  Registration will be open November 7 until December 1.

Practices will be 50 minutes long twice a week to allow enough time to sanitize before the next team/s will be allowed in the gym.
Only registered team members and coaches will be allowed in the gym during practices with 2 teams at a time.  Social distancing, masks entering and exiting and no loitering in the hallways will be enforced.  Locker rooms and drinking fountains will not be available and no one is to bring their own basketballs to the gym.
There will be no games played in our gym this winter.  CYO will make the schedules and publish them on their website.

At this time we cannot register any athlete that is not a member or our parish or school.

CYO Basketball is open to grade school age boys and girls in grades 3-8 and high school age boys and girls grades 9-12.  The season will conclude in early 2021.

All participants must be parishioners of St. Francis Xavier and/or enrolled in St. Francis Xavier School.

Public school or homeschool students must be enrolled in and actively attending a Parish School of Religion program for a complete year.
Check under “Athlete Registration Requirements” on this website for more eligibility requirements if you are not a registered St Francis Xavier Parishioner.

Each participant on a CYO team roster must have a valid 2020 preparticipation form on file in order to participate in practice, scrimmage or competitions. Players are INELIGIBLE to participate without a preparticipation form on file with the registrar before the first practice. The complete 2020 preparticipation form is valid for thirteen months from the date of the medical examiner’s signature.
